Hi All,

I must apologize, I’m sorry I haven’t updated for a while; life has been none stop for me lately.

Where do I start?Jamie Law

Firstly, I have signed to ride for Molson Kawasaki for the ’04 season. It is a great honour for me to join Tom Church on the team and I hope we have a really successful year!!!

And now lets pick up where we left off, as most of you will now know, I broke my leg whilst I was out in the USA but I’ll start from the beginning of my stay. The first 2 weeks I trained and practiced at the Millsapp’s place, this was a priceless experience for me.
The average day consisted of getting up at 6am and going for either a 3mile run or an 8mile bike ride, then it was an hour in the gym, a quick stop for breakfast and then on the bike from 10.30 – 4.30. I benefited a lot from these 2 weeks. I’m a lot more confident on the jumps and I found it easier to adapt my riding style for the more technical tracks.

After that it was on to Gatorback Cycle Park, Gainesville in the sunshine state, Florida for the Winter Olympics. The Super-X was good, there were 2 classes, stock and modified. I qualified 4th in my mod heat race and followed it up with a 10th in the final, which I was pleased with. 4th again in the stock heat but a crash on the start in the final ruined my chances, it was hard to come back through the field because everyone was so fast.

The Moto-X heats went pretty much the same, qualifying 5th in the mod and 3rd in the stock. This seen me well on my way and I felt really good about the finals.
Unfortunately accidents happen. My leg was then pinned and screwed and I was able to fly home the following day, talk about nightmares!!! In the meantime I have been to see a private specialist and I am pleased to report everything is on the mend.

So overall what can I say about America, It is definitely the place to be, believe everything you see and read about it, it’s that good and 10 times better. The place is brilliant, the tracks, the weather and the amount of passion people have for the sport is incredible.
I’d advise you start saving now to go and witness it for yourself; you’ll have an experience of a lifetime!!!

Moving on …………………

I had a great Christmas and new year at home with my family, it was good just to chill out and relax.

Obviously I had to pull out of the trip to Spain but Tom went down with the mechanics and done a lot of testing for the new Kawasaki 250f, we have the bikes running really good, as Tom and Stephen’s (Sword) results are showing.
I’ve been able to ride mine on a couple of occasions at the opening rounds of the U21’s and I think it’s very competitive, I just can’t wait to get back to full fitness and bring some results back to Kawasaki.

I have been working a lot harder on my personal fitness since the break with my trainer, and I’m really feeling the benefits.

For the past 6 weeks I have been based at Marshfield with the Church family, the hospitality has been brilliant as per usual, thanks once again to everyone. Living so far up north in Cumbria is certainly a hindrance for me being in this sport.

I think watching the first 3 big races ( 1st rounds of the KWS and Maxxis and the International at Hawkestone) of the year have been very valuable to me, it’s been good to see how everyone is getting on, saying that I’d much rather be out there with them getting mud in my teeth, but I’ve made good out of a bad situation.

On the 18th March I went across to Holland with Steve (Molson Team Manager) and Archie (my Mechanic) I done some practicing and watched the first G.P. at Zolder, what an experience, the pace was incredible. It was good to see Stephen (Sword) up there with the best of them, fingers crossed for him.

When I got home I was off to the first round of the U21 championship at Whiteway Barton, nr Devon. That worked out an ok kind of day. I qualified 19th, not as good as I hoped but it was enough.

In the first race I was 4th off the start, I held my lines well and finished 5th. I was losing at least a second on the right hand corners so I was pleased with the result. The second race was a bit different, someone ran into me on the start and I went down. I rode well and picked my way through the pack finishing 20th. I finished 12th on the day. I was pleased to have some points on the board and hopefully when my leg is fixed I will be able to improve on them and pick my way back up the leader board.

The following week it was the 2nd round of the U21’s at Landrake, nr Plymouth. It was pretty much the same story as Whiteway Barton, qualifying 24th. I was 8th in the first race from a mid-pack start and In the second race I had a coming together on the first lap, losing a minute, setting off last and pulled back up to 15th.

I’m sitting at 13th in the championship now with the next round on the 25th April at Wakes Colne, hopefully I will be a bit stronger by then and I will be able to gain some more valuable points.

It’s the second round of the KWS this weekend (10th + 11th April), unfortunately I am not going to compete as I think my leg will benefit from a rest and will hopefully speed up the recovery. I will hopefully be racing at Lyng the following weekend at the second round of the Maxxis British Championship, I am really looking forward to that.

Anyway, I had better get going now, I think everyone should be up-to-date and I will write again soon, ‘till then safe and successful riding to you all

Jamie
